As an informed home owner, one should be aware of some of the most common plumbing problems and finding plumbing tips to help prevent expensive repairs can pay large dividends in the future, saving you money and stress.

Here are some of the more common plumbing problems we have seen at LicensedPlumbers.ca serving Mississauga and surrounding areas and the symptoms to be aware of to help prevent undetected water damage and potentially expensive repairs:

Water Leaks

An undetected water leak can cause a big amount of water damage and expensive repairs. Periodically inspect under your home's sinks to see if there is any water leaking, dripping or even water sweats around the drain piping and water supply piping and connections. Parts do not last forever, so it is wise to inspect under sinks every so often to help prevent larger damage and higher repair costs. If any enclosed spaces (like crawl spaces) have plumbing, they should also be inspected. If you do not feel comfortable or are unable to see in hard to reach places, hiring the services of a local licensed plumber is your next best option.

Kitchen Sink Backing Up

If your kitchen sink is constantly blocking or clogging, this may indicate a larger problem. Like no other fixture in a home, the kitchen sink see's lots of food particals, fat and grease go down the drain. Over time (if the piping is not correctly sized and slopped) the pipe can slowly build up grease deposits and clog. In worse case scenerios the kitchen drain piping may need to be replaced. To help prevent kitchen sink clogs, avoid putting food, fat and grease down the drain.

Low Water Pressure

Experiencing low water pressure in the home can be several possible problems. The first thing to identify is if the low water pressure is constant throughout the home? Or is the low water pressure only present at a certain faucet? Often times, low water pressure can relate to a leak in the piping, or a clog in the piping system. For low water pressure problems, it is best to call your local plumbing company for assistance. If you live in the Mississauga area, call Chris at LicensedPlumbers.ca and he will be more than glad to help you with your plumbing troubles.

Rattling Pipes

Banging or rattling pipes can usually be attributed to air in the system. With fixtures such as single handle shower faucets, clothes washer and dishwashers usually on a home's water supply, the proper air hammering prevention procedures must be taken to eliminate pipe rattling, banging and air hammering.

Having a working main shut off valve is crucial to the home's plumbing and helping avoid plumbing emergencies.
